Thursday, Nov. 27

Highlights:
  • This morning in Literacy, we read chapter 3 of our novel. Ask me what I think of Bat.
  • For writing we continued working on how to writing. We chose another topic to write on and used sequencing words. Ask me what I wrote about today.
  • In Phys. Ed, it was our last day of soccer. We played Crazy Soccer! Ask me what was different about it.
 

  • Today in Math, we used the stacking method to solve addition questions with regrouping. Ask me to solve 54+38= using this strategy.
  • In Social Studies, we learned about some of the First Nations groups that live in Alberta. We then looked at some of the symbols that groups have and then created our own. Ask me what my symbol was and what it means.
 


Reminders:
  • This evening is Parent Teacher Conferences. They will continue tomorrow morning/afternoon.
  • There is no school tomorrow.

Highlights:

  • In Literacy, we learned about how there are specific action words that can be used depending on the type of how to we write. Today, we wrote the instructions for how to make a food item. Ask me what I wrote about.
  • During Math, we worked on two digit subtraction with regrouping. Ask me to solve 51-38= and 90-74= using the base ten strategy.
  • In Social Studies, we did a check in on the different things we have learned so far about Alberta. Ask me what has been my favourite.

  • Parent Teacher Conferences are tomorrow evening and Friday morning/afternoon.
  • There is no school on Friday.

Highlights: 

  • In Literacy we started our new class novel Megabat. We did a comprehension check of chapter 1. Ask me what I think is making the mysterious puddle in the story.
  • For writing, we looked at using the sequencing words (first, next, then, finally) to write the order for a set of pictures.
  • Today in Math, we started to use the base ten strategy to solve two digit addition equations. Ask me to solve 45+29= and 85+37= using this strategy.
  • For Science, we did a show what you know for our unit on matter. Ask me what was my favourite thing that I learned.

Highlights:
  • In Literacy, we are starting a new writing topic on procedural writing. This is writing that tells someone how to make or do something. We created an expert list of things we can do. Ask me what I included in my list.
  • For Math, we looked at what regrouping means. We then practiced regrouping ones and tens using base ten blocks and pictures. Ask me to regroup 4 tens + 13 ones.

  • Today we had our Reading Groups. Ask me what centres I did. There are also students with overdue library books. Please return any books that may be at home.
  • For Science, we learned about reversible and permanent changes. Ask me what are some examples.

Highlights:
  • This morning we had Fancy Friday! We learned the cursive letters for i, u, w, and t. Ask me to show you how to make them.
  • We also finished our class novel Third Grade Angels. Ask me how the story ended.
  • In Math, we practiced creating a survey and using a tally chart to record our first hand data. Ask me what my survey was about.
  • During Field Study, we used our pictures from our community walk to create a visual journal page on adjectives in nature.

Reminders:
  • Parent Conferences are next week on Thursday and Friday, please make sure you have booked an appointment on your Power School account.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy, we talked about the importance of making connections when you read. You can make a text-to self, text-to-text, or text-to-world connection. We then read a story called Owen and wrote about a connection we made. Ask me what mine was.
  • For Math, we used the stacking strategy to solve two and three digit equations. Ask me to solve 45+53= and 452+236=

  • In Social Studies, we learned about what treaties are, their purpose, and the different treaties in Alberta. Ask me to tell you what treaties we have.
  • Today in Health, we talked about different emotions. We wrote about what these emotions feel like and what we do to stay in control.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy, we reviewed what makes a good story. Then we wrote our own story for the prompt below. Ask me what my story was about!
  • In Math, we used the break apart strategy to solve two and three digit subtraction equations without regrouping. 

  • For Phys. Ed, we played Dribble Maze. We practiced dribbling, trapping, and shooting.
 


 
 

  • In Science, we created water safety posters in our visual journal. Ask me what tips I included.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy, we continued to work on how we can write descriptive sentences. We need to remember that our sentence should include a noun, verb, adjective, where and when. 
  • For Math, we started to work on solving two and three digit addition and subtraction without regrouping. We used the base ten strategy today to solve the questions. Ask me to show you how to use this strategy to solve 53+35= and 231+566=
 
  • During Phys. Ed, we started our soccer unit. We practiced dribbling the ball the today. 
  • In Science, we learned about the water cycle. Ask me how it works using the words evaporation, condensation, and precipitation.

  • Thursday is Pita Basket fun lunch for those that ordered.

Highlights:

  • This morning for Fancy Friday we learned the cursive letters for g, q, c, and o. Ask me to show you how to make them!
 
  • In Art, we created mountain landscapes to connect with our learning on the regions of Alberta.


  • We went on our community walk. We took different pictures of items created in nature. Next week, we will be making a visual journal page using the photos.
