Friday, Dec. 19

Highlights:

• This morning we finished our novel Megabat! We enjoyed the book so much that we are going to read the next book in the series after the break. Ask me how the story ended.
• For writing, we worked on a visual journal page creating a book review of the novel. Ask me what rating I give it and why.

• After, we had our Pj and Movie time. Ask me what movie I chose to watch.

Thursday, Dec. 18

Highlights:

• This morning in Literacy, we read another chapter of Megabat. We can't wait to see how the book ends tomorrow! 
• For Music, we did music sharing. Ask me what people shared today!
• During Math, we continued working on our winter graphing activity that we started yesterday.
• In the afternoon, we had our final reading groups before the break. 

• During Technology, we explored and used Typing Club.

• Tomorrow is PJ day! Students are welcome to bring a small snack to eat while watching our movie. 

Wednesday, Dec. 17

Highlights:

• This morning in Literacy, we wrote a story based on the picture below. Ask me what my story was about.

• For Phys. Ed we played Santa's Workshop. Ask me how we played!
• In Math, we did a winter graphing activity where we practiced making tally marks and a bar graph.
• We had reading groups in the afternoon, ask me which centres I did.

• In Art, we finished up our special projects!

• Friday is PJ day and the last day of school before winter break!

Tuesday, Dec. 16

Highlights:

• This morning in Literacy, we continued working on our special project.
• In Phys. Ed we played Snowman Battle! Ask me how we play this fun game.

• For Math, we learned how we can use estimation to help us find the sum and difference of equations.
• In the afternoon, we did a fun craft with Ms. Kris. 
• Today in Science, we learned about the four types of contact forces. Ask me what they are and an example.

• Tomorrow is Winter Wear Day. Students are welcome to wear anything festive (sweaters, t-shirts, hats, socks, etc.)
• Students that ordered NLS hoodies and t-shirts, they were sent home today. 
• Thursday is Fun Lunch for those that ordered.

Monday, Dec. 15

Highlights:

• This morning in Literacy we read Chapter 13 of Megabat. We are very close to the end. After, we worked on a special project. We can't wait to share it with you.

• For Math, we practiced solving 3 digit addition and subtraction equations using our favourite strategy. Ask me what strategy I like best.
• In Music, we used the boomwhackers to play different songs.
• We had our Reading Groups in the afternoon. Ask me which ones I did.
• During Technology, we started to use the website Typing Club to practice our skills. Ask me how I felt about it.

Friday, Dec. 12

Highlights:

• This morning we had Fancy Friday! We learned the cursive letters for e, l, and h.

• In Phys. Ed. we had Freedom Frenzy!

• For Art, we did Metis dot art which connected to our learning about the Metis people in Alberta. Ask me what nature design I chose.

• We did a Grade 3 Maker Space switch. Ask me what activity I did.

• Fun Lunch orders for next Thursday are due on Saturday for those that are interested. 
• Wednesday is Winter Wear Day. 

Thursday, Dec. 11

Highlights:

• This morning in Literacy, we learned about the suffixes -er, -ar, -or. Ask me which one is the most common and which one we see come after the letter l.
• For Phys. Ed, we had our last day of skipping. We practiced group skipping, individual tricks, and using the skip its!

• In Math, we used the break apart strategy for solving 3 digit addition. 
• During Science, we learned what contact force is. Ask me what I can remember and what are some examples.

• We had Maker Space time and had a chance to build with some new items. Ask me what I used.

• We had our second day of card making for the seniors. Ask me how my card turned out!

Wednesday, Dec. 10

Highlights:

• This morning in Literacy, we worked on an adjectives activity. We had to complete a winter story and add different adjectives that make sense. Ask me what were some examples.
• For Math, we worked on 3 digit subtraction with regrouping using the stacking strategy. Ask me to solve 701 - 354= and 982 - 438=
• Today in Music, we practiced our song You're A Mean One from the Grinch. Then we played poison rhythm. 
• In the afternoon, we did a fun art activity where we created cards for seniors. Ask me what art I chose for my card.

• The weather is going to be chillier tomorrow and Friday. Students are reminded to be dressed for the weather!

Tuesday, Dec. 9

Highlights:

• This morning in Literacy, we read Chapter 9 of Megabat. Our goal is to finish before the break! We also learned about the suffix -ly and the rule for when we use it. Ask me what happens when the word ends in the letter y, such as in the word happy.
• For Phys. Ed, we continued with group skipping! Ask me what trick we learned today.
• In Math, we practiced solving 3 digit addition questions by stacking. Ask me to solve, 458+364= with this strategy. 
• For Social Studies, we learned about the Francophone settlers in Alberta. We then began to create our own Francophone community in our visual journals. Ask me what are some things that I included and the French word for it!
• We ended our day with some Maker Space and Brain Booster time. Ask me what activity I did!
