Wednesday, Nov. 5

Highlights:

  • In Literacy, we continued with show, don't tell writing. Today we learned how we can show an emotion or feeling using words. We included things such as what our face, body, and voice might be doing. Ask me what emotion I wrote about.
  • For Phys. Ed, we played handball. Ask me what are some of the rules for the game.


  • In Math, we worked on counting dollars. Ask me to count and write down the amount shown below. 
  • For Social Studies, we continued our learning on the different regions found in Alberta. We finished our visual journal page. Ask me what is one fact that I learned.

Tuesday, Nov. 4

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy we started to learn about Show, Don't Tell Writing. We learned that show writing helps the reader make a detailed picture in their mind. Instead of saying, I am cold, we can show that by using descriptive words and our senses. 

  • For Math, we reviewed rounding to the nearest 10 and then practiced rounding to the nearest 100. Ask me to round the following numbers to the nearest 100:
    • 276
    • 512
    • 804
  • In Social Studies, we started our learning on the different regions of Alberta. Today we coloured the six regions on a map and began to learn about some of them.
  • We had our Reading Groups today. Ask me which ones I went to.

  •  Today a note went home about ordering NLS hoodies and t-shirts if families were interested. 
  • Picture Retakes are on Nov. 19.

Friday, Oct. 31

Highlights:

  • It was so wonderful to see all the great costumes, outfits, and hairstyles this morning! 
  • In Literacy, we started by rolling a monster! We created a monster picture then described it using adjectives. Ask me to share some of mine!
  • For Math, we did a fun place value scavenger hunt around the room. Ask me what were some of the answers to the riddles.

  • We had our Grade 3 recess today and then did a classroom switch doing different activities. Ask me which one I did.

Thursday, Oct. 30

Highlights:
  • This morning in Literacy we learned all about adjectives. We created a visual journal page with different examples. Ask me what were some that I included.
  • For Math, we started to learn about counting money. We began with counting cents. Ask me what is the value of the coins below.



  • During Music, we played a rhythm game using cups and did it to the Addams Family song.
  • In Science, we learned about the three different states of matter. Ask me what they are, examples of them, and what the molecules are like.

Reminders:
  • Tomorrow students are welcome to wear Orange or Black. They are also welcome to wear a costume. Costumes must not interfere with learning and must be comfortable enough to be able to fully participate in the learning day. Students may not:
    • wear full face costume masks
    • bring costume accessories (ie. weapons)
    • spend instructional time putting on costumes or makeup
    • bring candy, treats or other items to share with their peers or class.

It was wonderful to welcome back students today and to continue the learning we started. Welcome back to everyone!


Highlights:
  • This morning in Literacy, we did a review of our writing checklist. We practiced creating grade 3 sentences for different pictures. Ask me what are some things that I should be including in my writing.
  • For Math, we practiced skip counting by 3's, 4's, and 25's. Then we continued patterns starting at a given number. Ask me to count by 3's starting at 27. 
  • In the afternoon, we had our reading groups. Ask me which centres I did.


  • Today in Health, we reviewed expected and unexpected behaviours. Then we read a story called What if Everybody Did That? Ask me why rules are important. 
  • We finished our day with Maker Space and building with different materials. 

Reminders:
  • Today photo orders were sent home for students who were present on picture day. A class photo was also sent home.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Art, we learned about zentangles. Then we created a maple leaf zentangle. 



  • For Field Study, we have started to plan our own land acknowledgments. Ask me what ideas I have included in mine so far. 
  • During Maker Space, we were able to do a grade 3 switch again. Ask me what activity I did.

Highlights:
  • This morning in Literacy, we learned about nouns and how they are a part of every sentence. Ask me what are some examples.
  • Today in Music, we used the boom whackers to play different songs.
  • For Math, we practiced skip counting. In grade 3 students are expected to be able to count by 3's, 4's, and 25's by the end of the year. 
  • In Social Studies, we continued working on our Alberta landmarks visual journal pages.

Highlights:
  • This morning in Word Work we talked about the vowel teams oa, ow, and oe and how they make the long o sound. Ask me what are the rules for where we find them in words.
  • In Math, we started with a warm up and then learned about how we can use place value to determine what is 10 more/10 less and 100 more/100 less when looking at a number. 
  • We had Reading Groups today. Ask me which ones I went to. Students are reminded to also return their library books as book exchange happens at this time.

  • For Social Studies, we explored some of the different Alberta landmarks by doing a see, think, wonder in our visual journals. Ask me which landmarks I chose.
