Friday, Feb. 6

Highlights:

  • This morning for Fancy Friday, we worked on the capital cursive letters for G, I , J, and S. Ask me to show you how to make each one.
  • In Art, we learned about the artist Alma Thomas. We created art inspired by her work. 


  • For Maker Space, we did a grade 3 switch! Ask me what activity I chose to do.

Highlights: 

  • This morning in Literacy, we read the story Meet Willie O'Ree. Ask me who he is and the important impact he has had. 
  • For Math, we learned another strategy that we can use for multiplication and division. It is arrays! We did an activity where we looked for real life examples of arrays. Ask me to explain what they are and how we can use them to solve 4x5=. 



  • In Music, we used the boomwhackers to play different songs. Ask me what my favourite song was. 
  • During Science, we did an experiment on weathering. Ask me what we did and how it showed the weathering process. 

  • Today in Technology, we had some time to explore Typing Club! We are definitely getting better at our typing skills.

Reminders:

  • Today a class list was sent home with each student for our optional Valentine's Card Exchange next week. If your child wishes to hand out cards please note:
    • Each child in the class should receive a message if your child would like to send something.  (There is no expectation that your child will send a message, but we request that if your child does bring a note or Valentine that no student in their class is left out.)  
    • What is written is kind  
    • For safety reasons, no candy, chocolate or other food items can be handed out. (If your child brings any candy, chocolate or food items, they will be sent back home with them.) Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Highlights:
  • This morning in Literacy, we continued reading our novel Rover. We have now passed the launch. Ask me to share what my prediction is for the next chapter.
  • We also learned about the prefix mis-. We did a fun scavenger hunt around the room. Ask me what are some examples of words that have this prefix.
  • In Math, we practiced the strategy of equal sharing. Ask me how I feel about using this strategy for division.
  • Today was Winter Walk Day. For Science, we took our learning outside and used our senses to describe what we heard, felt, and saw. Ask me what are some adjectives I can use to describe the things I found.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy, we read the story Meet Viola Desmond. Ask me who she was and why she was important to Canadian history.
  • For Phys. Ed, we started our curling unit. Ask me what my favourite part was.


  • In Math, we learned how to do the equal sharing strategy for division. Ask me to show you how this strategy works for the problems below. 


  • Today in Science, we learned about how wind, water, and ice can slowly change the earth's surface. Ask me how a glacier forms a valley.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy, we have now made it to part two in our novel, The Launch! Ask me to predict what will happen. We also continued practicing our paragraph writing. Ask me what topic I chose.
  • In Math, we learned how to use the equal groups strategy to solve multiplication and division. Ask me to solve the questions below using this strategy.

  • For Science, we learned about some of the natural disasters that happened in Alberta. Ask me what they were.

  • Please see the email that was sent out by Mrs. Brinson this morning regarding Mrs. Pham's last day and the teacher that will be taking over for the remainder of the year.
